Asset allocation
Successful fund management begins with an overarching vision—a long-term strategic road map of the risks a plan can tolerate and the rewards it seeks to achieve. Milliman plays a key role for many funds in designing tailored asset-allocation plans to fulfil their objectives.
Working closely with clients to discover their goals, we begin with careful assessment of cash inflows, future liabilities, and required returns. Using the independent asset class estimates our experts have created, we can design a suite of carefully correlated investment managers to work toward consistent returns year after year.
Our advice comes without conflicts of interest
Our clients can be certain that Milliman's recommendations will be focused entirely on meeting plan goals while maintaining the lowest possible level of risk. Milliman impartiality is assured because we are never paid through commissions on any type of investment.
We offer expertise in current asset-allocation trends and practices, including:
- investment in real assets such as real estate, commodities, and infrastructure
- alternative investments such as private equity and hedge funds
- liability-driven investing
- ramifications of the Pension Protection Act of 2006
We customise advice over the long term
Our advice is tailored to the needs and size of each client. In working with one longtime client, a large public pension fund, Milliman guided the fund board as it carefully added riskier, but potentially more rewarding, asset classes.
Making private-equity investments in the 1990s was very successful for that fund, as were later real estate additions. Most recently, Milliman is providing expertise as the board explores adding other alternatives to its asset mix.
